 01/ Fine line
Fine line botanical tattoo on forearm — Silent Moon, Bermondsey London

Fine line tattoos use thin, precise single-needle lines to create delicate, detailed designs: botanicals, script, small symbols and subtle portraits, with minimal shading and no heavy outlines. It’s one of the most requested styles for first tattoos, and at Silent Moon it’s worked by artists with a steady hand and real experience in how fine detail heals, in our private Bermondsey studio, South East London.

Every fine line tattoo is custom. We never work from flash. Bring your idea, a sketch or a reference, and your artist draws it to suit your body, getting the size and line spacing right so it stays crisp and readable as it heals.

Fine line botanicals and script are the most popular forms: single flowers, stems, names, dates and short quotes. Micro fine line pushes detail even smaller, and works best with a confident, simple design and enough room for each line to breathe.

Will a fine line tattoo last? Yes, when it’s done well. Lines placed too close together can soften over the years, so our artists size each piece with healing in mind. Flatter areas like the forearm, upper arm, ribs and collarbone hold fine detail best.

Fine line and cover-ups. Delicate linework can’t hide an older tattoo on its own. If you’re looking to cover something, ask about our cover-up work at your consultation, and we’ll suggest a style that can conceal it properly.

What to expect. Most fine line pieces are finished in a single session. Your artist agrees sizing, placement and a guide price at your free consultation, and the clearer your idea or reference, the closer the result.
