 01/ Neo traditional
Neo-traditional animal and flower tattoo on forearm — Silent Moon, Bermondsey London

Neo traditional tattoos take the bold outlines and solid structure of traditional tattooing and add a richer colour palette, varied line weights, depth and decorative detail. Classic subjects such as animals, flowers, portraits and skulls are given more dimension and an ornate, illustrative finish. At Silent Moon it’s a style we’re award-winning in, worked in our private Bermondsey studio, South East London.

Every neo-traditional tattoo is custom. We never work from flash. Your artist designs your piece from scratch, choosing the colours, framing and composition to suit your idea and the shape of your body.

Neo-traditional vs traditional. Traditional tattoos keep to a limited palette, flat colour and simple shapes. Neo-traditional keeps the strong outline but opens up the colour range, adds soft shading and detail, and often borrows decorative frames, jewels and filigree inspired by Art Nouveau.

Award-winning work. Our artist Lubava took 2nd place in Neo-traditional at the Big London Tattoo Show 2025, recognised for her saturated colour and detailed animal and botanical pieces.

Will a neo-traditional tattoo age well? Yes, it’s one of the best-ageing styles. Bold outlines hold the design together as the skin changes, and saturated colour stays vivid. The same strength makes it a great choice for cover-ups, absorbing an old tattoo into a new, detailed design.

What to expect. Smaller pieces are usually finished in one session; larger or highly detailed work is built over several. Your artist agrees sizing, placement and a guide price at your free consultation. Prefer something ready-made? Ask about our artists’ available designs.
